In May 2024, WYG Consulting was contracted by Međimurske vode Ltd. to manage the construction of various components of the public water supply and drainage systems in Međimurje County. Our team of experts will deliver comprehensive project management services through the end of 2025. This includes overseeing the construction and reconstruction of water supply network extensions, the establishment of a sanitary sewer network with treatment facilities, the construction of drainage systems, and the implementation of wastewater treatment solutions. Our commitment is to ensure the successful and timely completion of these critical infrastructure projects.
The project will upgrade and build a drainage system and wastewater treatment plant in the Novalja agglomeration. It will contribute to the improvement of the water quality, higher rates of connection of the population to public drainage system and more appropriate waste water treatment levels. WYG is a partner in providing project management services to the client to enhance project implementation in line with the foreseen project objectives, relevant regulatory framework, EU funding rules and sound project management principles. The project team is supporting Client's PIU in development and monitoring of the project implementation plan, financial monitoring and reporting, legal advisory services, monitoring and control of works, supervision and equipment procurement contracts and providing ad-hoc project management advisory where required.
By joining the EU, the Republic of Croatia has undertaken the obligation to manage its environmental network, which covers about 37% of the mainland territory of the Republic of Croatia and about 15% of the sea territory. The aim of the project is to develop a framework for managing Natura 2000 sites through the development of more than 100 management plans and enhancing stakeholders’ capacity to manage Natura 2000 sites.
WYG is providing technical assistance and project management services for this strategic project, valued at more then 25 million euros. Our support include daily project management advice and support to the Client's PIU, financial management, risk management, public procurement, expert supervision, visibility and communication and any other services which can contribute to the successful implementation of the project.

The purpose of the strategic project "Modernisation of the National Weather Observation Network in Croatia − METMONIC" is the establishment of a modern and high quality system of automatic surface meteorological stations, meteorological-oceanographic buoys and remote measurement systems, including meteorological radars. In total, 450 modern automatic meteorological systems will provide traceable, reliable, high quality and timely information on the state of the atmosphere and the sea throughout the territory of the Republic of Croatia.
WYG is providing services of project management for construction and modernization of meteorological stations in 111 locations.
The project is co-financed by ESIF funds, within the operational program "Competitiveness and Cohesion" 2014-2020. The project value is over 50 mil EUR. The objective of the project is to contribute to the preservation and protection of the environment and to promote resource efficiency. It includes reconstruction and upgrade of existing waste water infrastructure, supply of necessary equipment, supervision of works and information and visibility services.
Technical assistance and project management services WYG provide to the Client PIU include:

The strategic goal of water protection is the intensive construction and reconstruction of the public drainage and wastewater treatment system, which would completely solve the aforementioned problem by 2023.
WYG is a partner to IGH in provision of supervision services for upgrading and reconstruction of wastewater treatment plant Varaždin and upgrading of the drainage system in several municipalities and city of Varaždin.
The project objective was to create basis and justification for construction of water utility infrastructure in Koprivnica region. The overall investment is 55 million EUR. The study envisages the extension, upgrading, and reconstruction of the existing wastewater collection system. Services provided by the WYGS included Feasibility Study with CBA and project application for upgrade and reconstruction of water supply system, equipment replacement at WWTP and procurement of equipment for maintenance of water supply and wastewater collection system.
Overall objective is flood protection on the Zagrebačko prisavlje river basin. Specific objectives were:
For Zagreb Prisavlje river basin the widest range of possible measures were considered. The first step was formulation of alternatives, identification of the entire set of potential measures for risk management of floods – structural and non-structural measures. Optimal variant for flood risks management solution includes: hydrological-hydraulic flood forecasting system; equipping several retentions for remote control; rehabilitation and reconstruction of several retentions; construction of flood relief channel; rehabilitation, reconstruction and construction of embankments, walls. Total value of the proposed investment was 161,881,172 kn (21,584,156 €). |
The basic objective of this Study, financed by the World Bank, was improvement and strengthening of the system for treatment and disposal of waste and waste sludge generated after wastewater treatment in public sewerage systems in the Republic of Croatia with special emphasis on systems that are planned to be constructed within the Coastal Cities Pollution Control Project, through an assessment of the legal framework, ecological, economic and institutional capacities of subjects involved in treatment and disposal of waste. The preparation of this Study through an analysis of current status and needs of institutions involved in treatment and disposal of waste surely contributed to new knowledge and possibilities to improve legal regulations by providing guidelines compliant with EU regulations and practice.

Supervision Service on construction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant of the city of Opatija, North Coastal Area EI 99/2010 is the 2nd largest WWTP project in Coastal Cities Water Pollution Control II (IBRD 7640/HR) and an integral part of the sanitary sewerage system of the area Matulji-Volosko-Opatija-Ičići-Ika-Lovran-Medveja. It was a new WWTP of the 1st degree of treatment with the sludge treatment process, connections to the all infrastructure and reconstruction of the submarine outlet connection.
Construction supervision includes activities of Design review and supervision during Manufacture, Supply, Construction, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Opatija according to the Design and build type of contract of World bank model, value over €6.000.000.
The subject of this contract was expert supervision of construction of the first stage of wastewater treatment plant Marlera (Pula) - mechanical pretreatment, 18000 ES with access road and supporting infrastructure (water, electricity, telephone).
WYG has provided Civil Engineering Supervision Service during construction, Mechanical Engineering Supervision, Electro technical Engineering Supervision, Geodetic Engineering Supervision Service and Coordinator II - Work Safety.
The project was successfully completed in 2018 (including defects period).
The subject of this contract was development of EU Structural Funds project pipeline for protecting Croatia’s water resources through improved water supplies and integrated waste water management systems in Istria and continental Croatia – for agglomeration: Savudrija, Umag, Novigrad Istarski and Pula-sjever, done in Croatia with identification number EuropeAid/133215/D/SER/HR LOT 1.

Implementation of activities under this World Bank project envisaged resulted in high-quality professional and technical basis for preparation of options and selection of the most favourable solution of the water supply and wastewater collection and treatment systems (based on existing planning and technical documents, studies and other documents), that are technically and operationally compliant with EU standards and economically and operationally sustainable and socially affordable in Croatian circumstances.
