Medvednica Nature Park, founded in 1981, encompasses 228 km2 of the western part of Medvednica mountain, which lies immediately north of Croatia's capital city of Zagreb. Its exceptional natural beauty, the wealth of outdoor activities it offers, and its proximity to the city have made it a favourite leisure destination for both Zagreb’s residents and visitors alike.
In 2018, Medvednica Nature Park issued a call for tenders for a project to sustainably improve the park’s visitor capacities. The bulk of the project involved the renovation of Medvedgrad, a 13th century castle within the borders of the park, as well as the construction of a new visitor centre for the castle. Given the scope of the project and the institution’s lack of experience in implementing EU projects, WYG’s role was to provide the park administration with additional assistance regarding project management (reporting, project activity coordination, risk management, project amendments, financial management) and public procurement (public procurement plan, preparation and implementation, including labour, supply, and services).
A WYG-led consortium succeeded in implementing the project and all public procurements necessary for the project, which had an overall value of €108,372 and was funded by EU OPCC.
